Starting in the late 1990s, the Pleasanton Downtown Association created the popular First Wednesday celebrations, which ran from May to September every year. During these summer months, Main Street was closed to traffic, and turned into a lively street fair with a different theme and related activities each month. Downtown businesses and organizations from the Tri-Valley region set up booths in the center of the street. A local band performed in the Inklings coffee house parking lot, which was used as a dance area and a beergarden offering beer and wine for consumption. However, in 2017, the association announced that it would no longer hold the events and was considering other event ideas in the future.
